Isabelle is an artist from Limassol, Cyprus and has recently graduated from a Fine Art degree at UWE Bristol. She is an artist with a painting-based practice, deeply inspired by the Renaissance and the captivating works of the old masters. The impact of this era drives her artistic expression, constructing a connection between the past and the present. Isabelle’s work acts as a reflective lens. Her paintings are re-interpretations of Renaissance masterpieces, capturing the essence of the hierarchical compositions from both the high and low Renaissance periods. Through image manipulation and narrative alteration, she breathes new life into these classical artworks, reimagining them on the canvas. This process allows her to draw upon the themes of the past while infusing them with the concerns and complexities of our modern society. It is at the intersection of the past and present where her art flourishes.

Through her paintings she also captures the ethereal beauty of heavenly creation and ascension. Using bright and bold colours, she elevates the subjects within her paintings. The deliberate use of colour brings out the vibrancy and energy of the brushstrokes, creating a captivating and engaging visual experience.By using several painting techniques, she aims to create an illusion where certain elements appear to leap out of the canvas, while other elements remain flat and distant. Within her work, Isabelle embraces the abstraction of figures such as angels, gods, and goddesses. This interplay and questioning of their significance invite viewers to explore and interpret their own meanings within the artworks.

‘I am interested in the dichotomy between the heavenly and the earthly, the divine and the flawed. An invitation to contemplate the heavenly and earthly realms, the ascent, and the fall’.
